This was a strange book for me. It’s slated as book one in the Kincaid brothers series, which I guess it is, but it strongly builds on never with me, which I haven’t read and assumed I didn’t need to. I’m guessing, purely by how confused I was with all the characters, that you need to.
To begin with, you get thrown into the deep end of characters. I had no idea who was who and it was very confusing. And to be honest, it stayed confusing throughout the book. I’m still not sure if all 9 brothers were mentioned. Yes, 9. Then you have cousins, and brothers, and friends who are also someone’s cousin but I’m still not sure how that works.
But to the story. I used to be a massive kaylee fan. I had read everything she had written and loved them.
But all her men started to roll into one. Brooks is cut from the same cloth.
The perfect man with the perfect family. Literally there is nothing wrong with anyone in this book. I’m not for angst for the sale of angst, but I do appreciate things to be a little more true to life.
I also wondered about Brooks and Palmer. Why was it *that* particular moment that he felt something for her. I think she’s been around him and his friends and family for a while, so why is this a new thing? Had they never spoken before? Never interacted? But they knew each other, so why now?
Also, this is a small thing. Some of the things Blakely says are weird. I get they’re trying to be cute, but I found them almost wrong and trying too hard.
To be honest, this book isn’t bad. It’s fine. But kind of one note. I had hoped there would be something to get me going, but unfortunately I didn’t find it.
